What is Youth Apprenticeship?

 

YOUTH Apprenticeship is available for Electrical EMPLOYERS that hire 16–17-year-olds. 

Electrical YOUTH Apprenticeship, contractors can enroll them in a DOL registered electrical apprenticeship class early, thus allowing that 16- or 17-year-old to start earning On-the-Job Training (OJT) & Classroom hours, along with having an electrical license.

1. How do I get enroll in Youth Apprenticeship?

Youth Apprenticeship is an apprenticeship for employers that hire 16/17 years old.  When you are hired at a company, they will enroll you into youth apprenticeship.

2. How do I find a company that hires 16/17 year old's?

3. What is the difference in Youth Apprenticeship and Regular Apprenticeship?

YOUTH APPRENTICESHIP = can obtain OJT hours but may be less than the 2,000 Required a year.

REGULAR APPRENTICESHIP = Required 2,000 OJT hours a year

Both Apprenticeships can start at age 16, it depends on how many OJT hours you can get in a year to which program you are in.

4. What documents are required for Enrollment?

You must have a valid government issued photo ID and a copy of their High School Transcript, Diploma or GED.

5. When is the Enrollment Deadline?
There is not a deadline.  When you are hired by an employer, they will enroll you.

6. My son/daughter is 16, how do I get them enrolled in Youth Apprenticeship?
Unless they are employed by an electrical or plumbing company that hires 16/17 year old's, they can not enroll in Youth Apprenticeship.  They can look into a pre-apprenticeship program.
