NWA Vital Cog: Suicide Prevention in Construction Class

In 2021, the rate of construction workers who died at work from falls and other incidents was 9.5 workers per 100,000 people. That same year, the rate for suicides was 56 suicides per 100,000 people - 6x times higher.

The construction industry has the second highest suicide rate out of all industries. To combat this problem, ABC Arkansas is proud to offer VitalCog: Suicide Prevention in Construction training at NO COST to our ABC Members. Our goal is to have at least one employee from every ABC Member company go through this training and become a Mental Health Champion.

Our primary objectives are to prevent more deaths, increase awareness, and ensure that each of our industry peers have someone they can go to when dealing with a mental health challenge or difficult time.

Reservations are required.
Spots are limited. First come, first served.

What to Expect:

Attendees will learn how to proactively address the early warning signs of suicide in the workplace. Just as organizations have realized they can help reduce heart disease by encouraging exercise, they can also reduce suicide by promoting mental health and encouraging early identification and intervention.

This three-hour training gives participants the skills and tools to appreciate the crucial need for suicide prevention while creating a forum for dialogue and critical thinking about mental health challenges, and by promoting help-seeking and help-giving behaviors.

This training includes videos, group discussions/exercises, and roleplays to create a better understanding of your role in suicide prevention:
•    Design: Learn the importance of talking about suicide in the construction industry
•    Bid: Identify risk factors and warning signs
•    Build: Practice conversations around suicide

After the training, participants feel:
•    Knowledgeable about suicide prevention
•    Confident talking about suicide and getting help
•    Likely to apply what they learned

Must register to megan@abcark.org by Friday, April 4th to reserve your spot or call 501.812.0828 for questions.

Cancellation Policy

48-hour notice must be given for cancellations. Substitutions are permitted.
No-shows and late cancellations will be charged a nominal fee of $10 to cover material cost.
